St. Teresa Artist Lofts

Providence, RI Expected Completion Date: 2026

St. Teresa Artist Lofts

Originally built in 1886, St. Teresa of Avila Church served a growing immigrant Catholic community in one of Providence’s most industrialized neighborhoods. Today, this red-brick landmark—with its classical detailing and iconic rose window—is being reimagined as 26 microunit lofts that offer creative, affordable living for artists in a city known for its vibrant arts scene and its proximity to institutions like RISD and Brown.

The design pairs historic preservation with modern sustainability, incorporating a new high-performance thermal envelope and a solar-powered carport system capable of meeting the building’s full energy demand. The project ensures St. Teresa remains relevant in a time of rapid social and technological change.
